Charles Leclerc Wins British Grand Prix 2026 as Kimi Antonelli’s Race Falls Apart

Charles Leclerc Takes a Brilliant Victory at Silverstone

Charles Leclerc claimed victory at the British Grand Prix 2026 after leading almost the entire race at Silverstone.

The Ferrari driver made a perfect start and stayed in control from the opening lap. His teammate Lewis Hamilton finished third, while George Russell secured second place after a strong drive.

Meanwhile, Kimi Antonelli lost valuable championship points after technical problems and a late penalty pushed him down to 16th.

Ferrari Enjoys a Strong Start

When the lights went out, Leclerc reacted perfectly and took the lead into the first corner.

Behind him, Hamilton took advantage of Antonelli’s mistake and moved into second place. At the same time, Russell defended hard against the Red Bull drivers.

Further back, Oscar Piastri collided with Liam Lawson, damaging his front wing. Alex Albon also made contact with Oliver Bearman and later received a 10-second penalty.

Hamilton Keeps Fighting Despite a Penalty

Race officials gave Hamilton a five-second penalty because his car moved before the start signal.

Even with the penalty, the Ferrari driver kept a strong pace and helped protect Ferrari’s advantage.

On Lap 11, Antonelli passed Hamilton at Copse and returned to second place. From there, the Mercedes rookie began chasing Leclerc.

Verstappen Moves Forward

A few laps later, Max Verstappen overtook Isack Hadjar for fifth place before making an early pit stop for hard tires.

Soon after, Hadjar also entered the pits but lost time behind Gabriel Bortoleto. That delay allowed Lando Norris to move ahead.

Later, a spectator’s umbrella landed on the track and caused a short Virtual Safety Car period. Marshals quickly removed the object, and racing resumed without major delays.

Russell and Hamilton Entertain the Home Crowd

The two British drivers produced one of the best battles of the race.

At Brooklands, Hamilton moved ahead of Russell. Russell answered immediately at Copse and took the position back.

Soon afterward, Mercedes discovered a tire problem on Russell’s car. The team called him into the pits as a safety precaution.

Although he lost time, Russell returned to the track and continued fighting near the front.

Antonelli Loses a Chance to Win

During Lap 36, Antonelli switched to fresh tires and began closing the gap to Leclerc.

Within a few laps, he reduced the difference to less than four seconds.

However, his race changed suddenly when his Mercedes developed a technical problem. The Italian driver had to visit the pits twice before returning in 10th place.

His hopes of scoring important points ended after race officials added a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits.

Safety Car Helps Leclerc Seal the Win

Another Virtual Safety Car appeared after Nico Hulkenberg stopped at Copse.

A few laps later, Verstappen spun into the gravel at Stowe. The incident brought out the full Safety Car.

Most drivers changed to soft tires for the final laps. Russell stayed out and passed Hamilton for second place before the race finished behind the Safety Car.

Leclerc crossed the finish line first and celebrated his first British Grand Prix victory at Silverstone.
